Exhibition in Bocs, Caernarfon... Coming soon!

I will be exhibiting at Bocs, Caernarfon, in June. Here is a sneak peak of what to expect...

This work has grown from studying the wool caught in fences – an image so common place in Wales it is embedded in the landscape. Every fence you pass will have organic matter lodged within a knot of man-made wire. If you look closely at these threads you will see a miniature installation in each bundle.

My sculptures enlarge the tiny arrangements within these parcels. Observing the structures, which are defined by light and shadow, these details form the basis for visceral experimentation. I work instinctively following linear patterns as the blueprint for defining a larger installation. The work is an expansion of the microcosm - drawing with lines and blowing-up encased knots to sculpt magnified installations.

Sculpture, Drawing and Shadow workshop @ RCA

Had a lovely day on the 6/8/12 leading a Sculpture, Drawing and Shadow workshop in Royal Cambrian Academy with participants 3-14 years old. We had lots of fun first creating ink drawings of leaves then using these designs to inspire our own wire sculptures and using these to experiment with the shadows that they made on the gallery walls- a very busy day indeed! Here are a few pics from the day and you can view the little video we made on:

A big thank you to RCA team and all who attended the workshop. Diolch Mawr i pawb!

Olympic celebrations at Eirias park...

I had a lovely day leading an animation workshop for Venue Cymru on Friday. The theme was the olympics but thought we should put the Venue Cymru stamp on it by including some familiar characters to lend the athletes a hand in their quest to win gold for team GB! check out the vid at:

Yorkshire Sculpture Park inspiration...

I visited YSP a little while ago and decided to take a few sculptures to photograph in the beautiful surroundings. I wonder if I can now officially say I've exhibited alongside Turrell, Nash & Goldsworthy?! Was a wonderful day and I had lots of fun trying out different locations... Next time I'm taking my string!!!

Hope you can all make it to the festival and find my installation... a hint.... it is in a graveyard near a very wobbly bridge!!!!

Sketches & Drawings

I had a great day at Mostyn gallery today, I not only had a productive paper work day I had the opportunity to join in some of the fun participants are having on the Teacher/Adult workshop in Mostyn's education space. Today we had Wendy Couling, a very very talented artist, in to lead a painting workshop... so I thought it would be rude for me not to have a go! Here are the drawings I finished. Thanks for the inspiring day Wendy!
